Gitlax̱t’aamiks Village Government does hold physical and digital records for all departments. The physical records are held for a certain period of time before they are decommissioned and destroyed. That time frame is typically seven years because of their legal retention time. Some documents are not destroyed before a ten year period due to their sensitive nature and others are not decommissioned until a file has been closed indefinitely.
GVG has been working toward being as paper-free as possible and we work with a couple of software programs to ensure that our records are kept safe even after their physical destruction takes place.
- FileMaker Pro
- Digital Binder
- Smartek
When files are decommissioned for destruction, GVG contacts a confidential shredding company for proper disposal of documents.
