The New Aiyansh Community Charter was established by the Nisga’a Constitution and outlines specific authorities and it is recognized by the Nisga’a Treaty. It is recognized as an order of Nisga’a Government within the jurisdiction of the Nisga’a Village of New Aiyansh.
The Charter defines and allows for the core authorities of Nisga’a local government and guides decision-making at Gitlaxt’aamiks Village Government. The Charter also provides an overview of administrative authorities, village government council structure and legislative authority as assigned/delegated and in accordance with the Nisga’a Constitution or by Wilp Si’ayuukhl Nisga’a. It provides Gitlaxt’aamiks Village Government the authority and discretion to address existing and future community needs.
In the Charter, local New Aiyansh residents will also find information on annual meeting requirements under section 14. Gitlaxt’aamiks Village Government does hold annual meetings for each department, therefore, exceeding the annual meeting requirements as outlined in the New Aiyansh Village Charter.
